Awesome post. I don't work that fast, but that's almost how I begin making a song. I have an idea, but usually what takes a long time is when I change my mind a million times messing with different sounds.

like this and this. Sometimes it's a combination of tracks or genres. Like the new track
I want to make should sound like Daft Punk disco meets 2010, I'm gonna work on it
tomorrow probably.

Any word on how this is coming along Luke? Do you do work on a lot of projects that don't get released, just kinda keep them to yourself?

Speeding Up Production? :)

Postby joykrash » Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:48 am

Hi there not sure if anybody else knows, i was just interested to know as Luke said in Future Music that he had learnt some techniques for speeding up the process of composing a track/song....

i was wondering what is this trick? i would like to try it...... it seems to me that the faster you can work the more energy can get into the track somehow....

care to share?

Hi joy, I pretty sure that luke had given advice about this, somewhere in this forum.. the point is you should already have some imagination about how the track sounds like.. and don't fiddle around to much.. And some experience should help, so just keep making tracks, and your producing time should speed up automatically

Recent;y I read an article about being stuck in a loop. The basic answer to that is, keep going. Don't listen your loop again for hours and hours, but go on! When you're 'in the zone' your creativity improves because of new things you hear... Okay, that sounds kinda vague, so basicly what I mean is this:
When I got a loop that kinda sounds like how I want it to hear, I start making an arrangement. It doesn't have to be perfect yet, you can add things later. But the rest of the track has consequences for what sounds you need.

I hope you know what I mean... I'll look up for the article I read later for whoever is interested

No man, in my experience I can say it's better to distance yourself from a track as much as you can.
If you get stuck in a loop, don't hesitate to go and do something else. Let it rest for half an hour or an hour
and come back to it with fresh ears and motivation. I had my days where I was hammering on a loop for the whole
day and then found out it still wasn't good enough because my ears failed on me at one point.

True true... but what I really mean is when you're listening to a loop for a week without changing it and just listening to it wondering what to do with it :)

I might have used the wrong words as well by the way. The article says a lot about working rapidly and fast. So that you don't waste your time on searching for that particular sound. When you have an idea you want to set that up as fast as possible, to stay in your flow right?
Anyway, I think the article has lots of good advice about how to improve your workflow :)
