Synths and applications

Postby tjmidge » Tue Sep 14, 2010 3:29 pm

i was going to post this on the production topic however i thought with such an open topic that it might flood it a little so i decided to begin a new thread. what im asking here is what synths people are using - however i now this has been asked before so i decided to include WHERE you are using them. i am summarising that as producers we dont just make one style therefore i thought people could give insight to what they use and where....for example someone who produces primarily dutch house...what synths are you using etc etc

for me when creating basses i generally use minimoog or minimonsta. weather this be sub bass or a thick lead bass.

for leads im rolling wth sylenth and rob papens predator, i generally make stabs or chord progressions as i have not yet attemptem such styles as dutch house.

pads i generally check out nexus, got some nice thick pads!

and for any other sounds like maybe the use of organs i genrally hit the korg m1

when it comes to strings i havent really found a favourite place although i find sylenth or nexus have some good presets.

what you guys use and where do you prefer to use them?

I demoed it. gotta say it is very hard on cpu (especially on my crap laptop). it has a little complicated structure, but I guess once you get its workflow, you can do a lot with it, coz it actually sounds sweet! although I think it cant beat Sylenth :)))

I have one qustion I cant find an answer anywhere - regarding Eric Prydz.
I always keep wondering where does he get all those phat analog strings and pads??? if you listen to a lot of his tracks - those strings and pads are awesome and unique!
I heard he uses korg legacy - do those sounds come from there?

just read the Swedish House Mafia's Future Music interview, seems like they are in love with Sylenth too :))) but Steve Angello says he got bored with it quickly :) also some quite revelations from them out there, like they say they used to buy some synths just to use them in a single track and then to forget about them completely:))) doesnt it mean that they just sweep through the presets without getting deep into the synthesis?:)

oh, I didnt want to sound like those crazy purists, that say every blip and click should be done from scratch :))))
I also meant that these guys do use presets and do it BIG!!! Axwell also noted that Sylenth presets sound big straightaway without need of additional processing!:)

Hi there!

First time here.

I use Thor for almost everything .

Thor is similar in some ways to NI Massive.
