Which already was stated by SonicC in the start of this topic
the best way to get your tracks there is send them out, for some
sort of reason (also) big DJs are triggered by the fact a Laidback
Luke or Sidney Samson is playing your track, then it has to be
quality! Got me my release on Made In NL (Spinnin'), and yet
so many beautiful things in my sight right now!

So really, don't aim for a release.. Aim for support, most
"big" labels are really horny on support! They want to see names
that are playing out your tracks!! Waiting on labels is just too
much of a wait, it's better when they show up that they like
your track!

I know I have made a mistake by getting a much signed as possible
and getting around everywhere but that's not going to get you
any further then this. As Dan already said, most labels don't do anything
on promotion for you because they're not bothered enough because
you're just a small name!

So don't be afraid if your releases take a while, the world loves your
music but it just takes a little more time from the labels to recongize
you as an artist!! :)

Keep positive and keep doing what YOU love to do! Luke told me this
a couple of days ago, and it really inspired me again to get going! So
I hope I can inspire you aswell to keep on going :)

And I know I am not the biggest name in the world telling you this, but
it's just my experience of what's happening to me right now and how I'm
handling it! :)

I totally agree with what you said.. + I just recently found an article/guide (from a well-known label Gruuv), where they explain why numerous tracks don't get the wanted attention and/or are rejected before even being listened to.

Check it on this link (their fb page):

Sorry for resurrecting this topic, but i have a question. let's say i want to send a demo, does it matter if it's not mastered, cos i don't know how to do it ? will they listen to it anyway, or i have to master it ? and let's say they like it, they want to sign it, will the record label master it ? thanks

Depends on the label itself.
i usually have to sent my mixdown with -3db headroom because most labels i worked with master the tracks themself.

but some of the smaller labels don't have budget or people who can do mastering, so those labels mostly want to give them the mastered version that you did yourself.

Toplabels listen to your tracks mixdown. if the mix is good, they will do the mastering themself.
If the mix sucks, but they like your track, they will reply but tell you to redo the mix.
if you screw the 2nd mix up, you will not hear them again, so mixdown is very important for the bigger labels.
