Depends on where you are rendering for. Digital use or CD?

Digital

Then it's oke. You can choose to normalize your track, but if your a advanced producer you'll understand why you won't need that. (something with limiting at 0db). When your exporting for CD use, choose 16 bit.

My Mac uses about 280 GB already.

I tried. I had some issues with latency and "crackling" as well as CPU overload issues. Eventually I built myself a nice quad-core PC for cheap and it FAR outperforms my macbook pro in every aspect.

I have run ableton and cubase on bootcamp and they ran 100% fine...

I work in IT, and i dont know why you would have latency, crackling or CPU issues... how old is your macbook pro, and im guessing you dont use an external sound card?

My audio engine in Ableton set to 32bits internally. But my audio interface is only 24bits. I use the L2 on my master as my limiter. Should I have dithering and shaping on so the output to my 24bit soundcard is being processed by the L2?

So here's the question:

32bits Ableton --->???---> 24bit FireStudio Mobile

I'm not talking about rendering but live streaming. Just when I'm listening to music whatever. I don't think that Live is doing it automatically, so this is something I have to do.

What your Output driver running at?

It would have to at some point take it down to 24bit, possibly at the Sound card driver level?

aka 32 (ableton) ---> sound card driver resample to 24bit ---> hardware 24bit firestudio mobile

Thanks for your response bro. and my macbook pro is fairly new. A little less than 2 years. However I do use an external soundcard to plug in my krk 5's. Can any of you give me a suggestion on how much memory to partition for windows to just run fl studio and all the plugins?

Hi guys anyone any advice on programming toms? I cant get the right groove or feel to them no matter how many times I move the midi around or if I try and play in the notes in my midi controller! Any tips at all on what I need to do to get them right?

Get some full loops with toms in them, and try to copy the grooves, you will get a sense of how to program them after you recreate a few :D

Depends on how much you need?

Your hard drive should be around 250Gb atleast, so going around 50GB isnt bad if you use bootcamp for strictly production.

Just remember, when you have bootcamped it, its a windows computer, its not an emulation, it wont run slower than OSX etc...

But... THere are still plenty of things you can do it XP/WIn7 to speed up your computer, look up "optimizing windows for music" or similar in google :D

Hey guys, I know we're kinda over the whole "how do you make this sound" post but the bassline at 2:00 of this is so nasty I can't resist:

I can already tell there's some stereo spread, ever so slight pitch modulation, lots of detune, saw wave to begin with maybe. Any other goodies in there?

Crappy track in my opinion! The bass sounds way too far away and is horribly mixed and the riff/melody in between bars sounds incredibly cheesy and is poorly timed

Anyways you have the right idea, but definitely start with a sawtooth instead

I heard that a lot of the lows in lukes, or the sweds tracks are made with sub bass or low toms, but ive tried and it still doesnt give me that punch...If i was to produced something of the likes of Lukes remix of a long time coming(which is amazing)... specially the part when it kicks in after the intro...thats powerfull with a lot of low end... how was that done? sub bass + bass + tom? just sub bass? what frequencies should i keep for what instruments.... im just really confused... any knowledgeable help would be appreciated ( are there any vsts, samples that are perfect to do that?)

Thanks a lot,

Okay - this is an old post, and Luke told this guy to search for the answers. I have now been reading from 1-200 pages of this thread - and boy have I learned a lot!! But an answer to that specific question about low end and the swedes seems to be missing.. And typing bass in search give you 177 pages which just makes it impossible to find since this forum has gotten so big since. Anyone care to help? :)
