Kick Samples.

Postby Timpaahh » Sat Feb 18, 2012 4:59 am

Found out that gooood kick samples are harder than I thought to find.. Been working a lot with Vengeance, but I personally find the majority not really that good enough. They doesn't seem to have those tiiight fatass kicks you hear in the SHM tunes etc. And unfortunately i'm not talented enough to layer kicks thaaat well enereringwise to get my own ones.
Someone got any tips on other great kickpacks or perhaps someone want share some own fat asss kicks with us fellow forum mates? ;)

Cheers !

You can find on the internet the "Leave The World Behind" remix pack. Sample the kick, it's very good, and Afrojack uses it a lot

every single track i get i run it into mixed in key first then second i listen thru the track to see if i can cut anything out....kicks, vocals, fx etc and ud be surprised there are quite a few tracks out there...ive found some avicii tracks, afrojack, dahlback etc etc in which ive been able to cut kicks from. also look back at old tracks u have from ages ago that arent even in your cd wallet anymore. i advise making just one folder...i made one folder in which kicks i sampled or kicks i like are located...so im forever going thru my sample packs and deleting or moving kicks into 'my folder' so hopefully in time im only left with that 1 folder and not loads of librarys of kicks.

Great tips guys, never thought of the power of sampling from other songs before! Got the LTWB remix pack and the kick sounded awesome! Exactly that tight fat sound I was looking for. Also been going throught alot of my music the last couple of days and wow, it blew me away how much usefull stuff you could actually find :D
Also got the Vengeance Electroshock soundpacks which I didn't have before, actually found some really dope kicks in there!

Haha so now that one magic kick folder will eventually start to look like something! :)

Thanks guys!
Cheers!

I have a problem sampling kicks on FL Studio. I cut the kick of a track and I export it as WAV. Firstly, it has like a 1ms delay from the original sample I'm doing on FL (It doesn't matters I think), but when I put the kick on a new project and I click on my Step Sequencer "Fill each 4 steps", it sounds like the kick have a loop and it sound at every steps. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? :?

to sample kicks i usually cut a loop out the track...say 4 beats. then drop the loop in edison and theres a drop down menu where u can 'auto slice' but with sharp settings and i find it normally cuts the kick pretty sweet, either i do it like that or drop it in a fruity slicer or manually cut it in edison! then i dont export i just savet the sample as usually straight outta edison!

Use the metrum if you have... layer 2 instances of metrum if you need it. For me 1 instance works fine for me (at the moment). I tend to set a long decay on my kicks (almost 1/8) and i automate the bass volume with volumeshaper. Works fine

EDIT: I don't sample kicks from songs at all... they can contain bits of synths (or other things... I guess)

look up Forekast. he sells samples and a $30 sample pack that includes kicks, snares, hihats, etc. I swear by it now. Everything is PHAT, EQ'd and ready to go. they're my go to samples now. I agree some Vengeance samples are good but most are just plain dull. I promise you Forekast will not dissapoint!

Thanks for the tips henrydoce! Looked up Forekast on the webb and found a bunch of free stuff on his page, really usefull presets and stuff, so thanks! :D

Yeah, SHM and Absolut Vodka is having a remix competition for Greyhound. Unfortunately the remix pack can only be downloaded in America.. I live in Sweden but I got hold of it anyway! I'll see if I can put the pack up for download for you guys! :)
