im working on a track and sometimes my master goes +1-2 db, but there's no clipping, everything sounds just fine. is that ok, since it does not affect track in general ?

So you mean there's no clipping on the individual channels but only on the master?
That's a bad thing because you want some headroom on the master channel (4-6db is what I usually aim for).

yes, it only goes above 0 db on the master channel, but like i said it doesn't affect the track at all, there is no distortion, everything is nice and loud. about headroom, is it ok to leave it like how it is now, but before mastering to lower the volume on the master channel for like -6db ?

Yea thats fine, but you have to lower the volume before the master channel (so use like a gain plugin and set it to -6db at the top of your master chain).

Hey guys,

I want to say that I'm new to this forum, and also want to say that this forum is amazing I have learned a ton from it :), thank you to everyone who posts in it. I have been reading over the posts in this forum for about three months now and don't think that my question has been answered anywhere and I apologize in advance if it has and if my question has been answered can someone please post the link.

Okay, so here is my question. So Ive noticed that many producers use the plugin Sylenth1 ... I have already invested in Native Instruments Komplete 8 (which includes Massive, FM8, Absynth so on, I'm sure most of you know this). So my question, is it worth it for me to go and also purchase Sylenth1 or can most the sounds from Sylenth1 be made in FM8 or Massive? And also what would be the advantages in owning Sylenth1 compared to Massive or FM8.

Thanks in adavance

I don't know FM8, but I think Sylenth1 is a very good and interesting vst because it's so easy to use and you can make or change every presets. Don't know if FM8 is a good plugin or if you can do every Sylenth's sounds with it, but I think Sylenth1 would be a good purchase for you

Do record labels generally want the demo email to have the song attached or have a URL link to the song in the email?

I think that they (most of them) are too lazy to download your tune (and if its big wav file you can forget it even more). But as many labels there are as different requirements they have. For me soundcloud is working pretty well 4 this. Just dont forget to set tune to private. And plus you can see if someone had listened to your track or not etc.

So bassicly +1 for links

Hey Guys! I need your advice.
1.How many db is normal to the master output, with and without peaks?
2.How can I make clap and snare clear, what tricks do you use?
P.S. This forum is pumping a little bit of my skills in English language :)

English:

Hello Nikke.
1. I usually try to keep my master @ -6db.
2. At first you need to get clean source material (samples). It depends on situation but sometimes I take freq where clap/snare is hitting in spectrum and make some little gap with EQ on other sounds (bassline, lead etc) for about -3 db so you free up your space for clap or snare. But dont overdose with that gap. Sometimes NY compression or parallel compression helps beef up drums. But still its all about your samples...

Russian:

Privet Nikke.
1. Obichno Ja svoi master derzhu okola -6db.
2. Snachalo tebe nado izpolzovatj harowie sempli potomu chto vsja sutj v tom chto gavno na zoloto nizdelaesh. Inogda ja iwu gde snare ili clap nahoditsja v spektrume i delaju malenkuju dirku s Ekvalaizerom rovno tam gde snare bjotsa. No delaju eto na drukih zvukah - bass, lead, pad... Chto mi s etim dostigaem? mi osvobaždaem mesto dlja snare ili clap.

Mick wrote:Hey all, so my question is about a preset I found in massive called underwunder. When I hold the s key on my laptop it plays the sound I want (midi key d3) but when I put a note into my midi track the same note doesnt play. This is in ableton btw

I just checked this on Ableton and Massive (1.3.0) and it sounds fine to me, They both play the same sound o.O

I dunno what it is then, its just annoying because I really like the sound

Have you checked to make sure the velocity is the same value? Instead of drawing the note into the piano roll record it while pressing the s key that should ensure you have the same velocity at least

Done that too, still no joy :?

Okay so I might have a solution. I think i've had this problem years ago. Go to the GLOBAL tab in Massive. On the Left side there should say Init Patch, Preset Bpm , and Stop Hold Env. Make sure that the EXTERN SYNC box in the PRESET BPM section is unclick / unhighlighted. Try to see if this works for you! :) Here ill post a Screen Shot for ya

Sorry about the late reply, some dick hacked my account an I couldn't log in. Thank you very much, it worked! Now that's sorted I have another question. Iv been making a moombahton track with the vocals from timebomb an I posted it the other day but was told its out of key. I use ableton an the warping thing I find kind of hard, I watched youtube vids but its hard to learn. So I'm guessing I put the "ohhh" right on my 4x4 kick but then what? Do I click warp from, warp straight, set 1.1.1 fromhere. Help please

1. -8db to -3db is good, depends on the master you need.

2. As it is stated above, if its not a clean sample, there is not much you can do. You can build your own snare sound with a drum synth if you want a clear one hehe.

My question is on what makes you copying someone elses style when writing in that genre? Let's say if you really like the type Arty, Avicii etc produce what makes you unique in that genre instead of people assume you are simply copying the same style?

Sometimes I produce a really good groove/melody but then I feel like I am copying it. Some dilemma over there.

So do you mean that while im mixing, i shouldn't let my master goes above -6db ? Because when im mixing im aiming that mix have to be as loudest as possible, up to 0db, but let's say i want to send it to the mastering, i thought that i simply need to lower master for that 6db, but reading your comments i guess it is wrong :) any other tips on this ? i mean there is no distortion in my tracks even if it's clipping 1-2 db. it bothers me for some time, i need to get as much as tips and advises on this topic as i can :)
